Job Summary: 

The Technical Buyer is an integral part of the Supply Chain team, and reports to the Supply Chain Manager. The main responsibility of the Technical Buyer is to ensure the timely supply of parts and supplies needed to support the project needs, from the most competent supplier, under the best achievable terms (price, lead times, and delivery terms), while achieving the optimal cost / inventory balance, in accordance with the company's procurement procedures policies.


  • Participate in all relevant project meetings to identify needs upfront of the finalization of the BOM
  • Review the list of parts required in the ERP and validate requirements against the existing stock and confirmed deliveries
  • Perform RFQ with a selection of approved suppliers
  • Negotiate technical and commercial terms
  • Place necessary Purchase Orders (PO), ensuring all data is accurate (Supplier, Description, Price, Delivery Terms) and obtain confirmation of delivery date from suppliers within a week of placing a PO
  • Get PO approval and signature according to the Company's approval Matrix
  • Expedite purchase orders on a continuous, proactive basis to satisfy company's requirements; initiate corrective action with suppliers, as necessary, for undesirable performance issues and notify appropriate personnel within the company accordingly
  • Update the ERP with the confirmed delivery date
  • Arrange and follow-up on the transportation and analyze/evaluate delivery problems and implement solutions to solve them. Communicate to production department with updated developments
  • Manage the supplier conformance to the contract and to the expectations of performance to quality, delivery, quantity, service and cost reduction goals
  • Measure and record the inventory levels of purchased parts
  • Make recommendation and assist in supplier review / audit
  • Make recommendation for improving the supply chain: Transportation, packaging, delivery frequency, ERP tools



  • Profound knowledge of purchasing practices and procedures– preferably in a manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of machining and manufacturing processes for electronic /semi-conductor industry preferred
  • Raw Material Buying/Supplier experience (surface finishing, molding, machined goods)
  • Background in Hydraulic components
  • Ability to read technical drawings/blueprints, bill of materials and CAD drawings
  • Developed customer service skills
  • Experience with Ordering and Expediting with advanced analytical and problem solving skills
  • Fully proficient with handling of RFQ in an international environment
  • Proven negotiation skills
  • Proficient in standard MS Office software
  • Knowledge of MRP process
  • Experience with an ERP software
  • Shipping/ Receiving experience or willingness to cross train for this position is an asset


  • Education in Business / Administration / Technical
  • Certification with an industry-recognized standard (APICS, PMAC, CPSC)
  • General understanding of technical terms related to our products and industry
  • Minimum of five (5) years of buying experience
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
