Job Summary: 

SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS:
The primary purpose of the Methods Engineering Technologist is:

  • Accountable for developing and revising Engineering Masters (EM’s), planning documents and workbooks to ensure that they properly define HOW the aircraft assembly, sub-assemblies and parts are manufactured in accordance with the type design
  • Defining standard work
  • Supporting Production in solving simple tactical problems.
  • Defining parts manufacturing process
  • Provide guidance to Methods Engineering Techs (workbook writers)

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSABILITES:

  • Engineering Master (EM)
  • Create EM’s to define parts, tools, processes, sequence and special instruction required to build a part/assembly
  • Ensure EM’s result in an aircraft that meets the approved Type Design
  • Perform changes to the EMs IAW the ECN process
  • Workbooks
  • Create workbooks to fully define the agreed build sequence of the aircraft assembly and sub-assemblies.
  • Ensure workbooks are sequenced in correlation with the Engineering Master
  • Engineering Change Process
  • Record and submit Engineering change requests for changes to design and tools producing non-conforming product
  • Record and submit Engineering change requests for changes to design and tools required to improve efficiency and quality of builds
  • Participate in Integrated Product Development Teams (IPDT) to resolve ECN issues
  • Execute ECN related tasks
  • First line of Technical Support For Cells
  • Trouble shooting technical manufacturing issues
  • Participate in investigations into technical Issues
  • Liaise with Engineering in technical Issues through the NCM Process
  • Liaise with Quality Engineering, and Supply Chain to develop resolutions and implement changes to technical or quality problems
  • Participate in continual improvement initiatives
  • Liaise with QC Group to determine problem resolution
  • Assist in execution of NCM Tasks
  • Hand Tools
  • Tool Control Process
  • Participate in TPM process
  • Build Cost Reductions
  • Assist Cell Managers in developing plans to increase cell efficiency
  • Manage Cell major projects to assist in increasing production rate and reducing costs
  • Training
  • Assist in developing and rolling out technical skills training for manufacturing and assembly personnel to support the Quality Management System (QMS)
  • Assist in training of Production personnel, Methods Engineering 1 and co-op personnel

EXPERIENCE AND/OR EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering or Technical Diploma preferred, related work experience considered.
  • Knowledge of Aerospace engineering and manufacturing principles and techniques.
  • Ability to apply sound engineering principles to operational and process design issues.
  • Ability to read and interpret aircraft engineering drawings.
  • Ability to communicate well orally and in writing.
  • Ability to communicate and document information using a computer and required software (MS Office programs, AutoCAD)
  • Ability to manage and act on multiple projects and priorities at one time.
  •  Ability to work effectively either independently or with others on flexible work assignments.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires the ability to walk, stand and sit for long periods of time. Eyesight must be sufficient to be able to read fine print and aircraft engineering drawings details.
