Job Summary: 

Reporting to the Human Resources Business Manager, the Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) will plan, develop and implement sound people strategies to meet business needs. In addition to providing strategic HR counsel on the spectrum of HR services success will come from forging strong relationships with leaders and employees across the organization. This position is responsible for the HR needs of the Canadian operation which includes the Victoria office as well as for the remote employees in the Canada. This position carries out responsibilities in all of the following functional areas: Recruitment, Selection and On-Boarding, Compensation and Benefits, Performance Management, Training and Development, Employee Relations & Engagement, Policy and Compliance, HRIS, Health and Wellness and Immigration.

This position works closely with the Human Resources team in Canada and the US. The Human Resources Business Partner will also collaborate with the Global HR Director’s team and complete project work for the global level.

Tasks we expect you to perform:

  • Act as a change agent and strategic business partner, contributing to the development of business strategies/policies
  • Conduct recruitment, selection and on-boarding activities in a rapidly growing environment for difficult to fill roles in a range of fields (e.g. professional services, sales)
  • Provide leadership for Canadian HR processes and Canadian human resourcing requirements
  • Stewardship and integration of HR policies and practices
  • Lead and support the effective implementation of companywide HR processes
  • Provide leadership, direction, coaching, support and guidance to leaders on all people related issues
  • Monitor, analyze, interpret and report on HR trends internally and externally and make appropriate recommendations to capitalize on opportunities, mitigate risk and resolve issues
  • Liaise, collaborate and contract with service providers for HR (e.g. lawyers, brokers, etc.)
  • Provide input for the improvement and development of HR strategies, policies and programs
  • Lead compensation and benefits for Canadian operations including benefits negotiation, administration, compensation benchmarking and compensation review process
  • Provide reporting for training and development activities using the Learning Management System
  • Provide budgeting input for Canadian operations and for training and development
  • Maintain employee information using the Human Resource Information System (HRIS)
  • Co-Chair of the Health and Safety committee and responsible to ensure Worksafe BC compliance
  • Work with resources in order to ensure corporate immigration needs are met for US and Canada
  • Other duties as required

Skills and Knowledge we expect you to have:

  • University Degree (HR Major preferred)
  • Strong HR foundation with a high level of critical and logical thinking, analysis, and/or reasoning to identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts
  • 5+ years of direct experience as a senior HR professional, preferably in the high-tech industry
  • Proven track record of success in recruitment, benefits administration, performance management, training, rewards and recognition and employee relations
  • Experience with Canadian employment acts, regulations and laws
  • Experience administering employee benefits, pensions, insurance program, overtime, bonuses, etc.
  • Politically and culturally sensitive
  • Strong communication skills (written, verbal, presentation) with ability to influence at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to identify developmental needs of employees and to provide coaching, and mentoring
  • Excellent time management and project management skills
  • Strong morals and ethics, along with a commitment to staff privacy
  • Experience with automated software applications and HR systems a plus
  • Familiarity with US employment laws and immigration requirements a plus
