Systems Analyst – IT5 (LAMP Administrator)
IT Services Web Systems

As a member of the Web Systems team, you’ll work with like-minded, creative web professionals in a collaborative and innovative environment.

The Web Systems team is actively involved in website and web application development and ongoing support and maintenance of those systems, including, but not limited to, the university’s online learning platform (Moodle), Drupal websites and other software packages as they are required (primarily PHP/MySQL) .

In this role, you’ll be providing the server level expertise to support and maintain our LAMP systems in order to support the ongoing website and web application development. Your responsibilities will include providing server management for our websites and web apps, and will extend to testing, including performance testing, managing security updates, SSL, LDAP, SQL queries, and supporting software version control systems (SVN, Git). You will also provide timely customer service, respond to service requests using an internal ticketing system, and maintain an overall high level of quality for the university’s web presences. The ability to code (PHP) is definitely an asset.

 You must be proficient in current web technologies and be enthusiastic in learning more about emerging technologies as they arise. You must also have familiarity with SQL compliant database platforms, web servers, application servers, and operating systems, especially LAMP environments.

 You will have extensive experience with Linux and Apache and a keen interest in the Open Source community, as well as a familiarity with iterative application development including agile development methodologies.

To be well suited to the role you will possess the following qualifications and competencies:

  • Must have a degree or diploma in Computer Science or a minimum of three (3) years’ related work experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience maintaining LAMP hosting environments
  • Current knowledge of networks, servers and dependencies
  • Demonstrated experience with databases and Structured Query Language (SQL)
  • Skills in coding/scripting in a web-based environment (specifically PHP/SQL) are an asset
  • Advanced problem solving skills
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Good communication skills and interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate complex and technical ideas to others
  • Proven ability to work well independently as well as part of a team

This is a regular full-time position working 37.5 hours per week on campus. The position has been evaluated at Grade 3 and the recruitment range is $42,864 to $53,581 per annum. The university is pleased to offer a comprehensive benefits package.
