ASL also manufactures a line of underwater acoustic measurement instruments, which are sold on a global basis.

ASL is located in Keating Industrial Park in Central Saanich and has a staff complement of 50 highly qualified scientists, engineers and support personnel.

Job Summary: 

The Oceanographic Data Analyst position involves processing and analysis of physical oceanographic data sets, working in a team environment, with senior oceanographers, computer programmers, data analysts, technicians and others. The job activities will involve processing and analysis of upward looking sonar data sets from ASL’s Ice Profiler and/or the Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler. ASL works on diverse projects, thus analysis could be include other in-situ oceanographic instruments. Many of the data analysis programs, in ASL’s software library, have been previously developed for these types of applications. The programs are written in MATLAB and in C language. For some project tasks, modifications to existing programs and, possibly, new programs will be also required to conduct the data analysis. The results of the data processing and analysis will be used to prepare a scientific data and analysis reports.

Qualifications

  • Physics or mechanical engineering degree. Other technical backgrounds that demonstrate a balance of scientific, computing and data analysis expertise will be considered
  • Computer programming skills. Experience in MATLAB is preferred.
  • Any training or experience in oceanography or environmental aquatic studies is an asset.
  • Experience in working in a project team environment, preferably in scientific applications.
