ASL is seeking a Manufacturing Technologist to join the company’s Product Division.

Job Summary: 

The primary duties of this position are the assembly and testing of all ASL products under the direction of the manufacturing manager. The technologist is responsible for ensuring that all products he/she constructs pass manufacturing tests and calibration as required, and meet the documented quality standards of ASL. The technologist will also assist with the maintenance and repair of ASL’s oceanographic instrument inventory, working with personnel from ASL’s Equipment Rental and Field Service groups. This position also includes assistance in the use and maintenance of the manufacturing ERP system, product documentation and the oceanographic instrument inventory system.


  • Manufacturing of all ASL products including boards, chassis, assemblies, subassemblies, canisters, etc., inventory control, procurement of parts and materials, document control, shipping and receiving.
  • Quality management including visual inspection of all parts, performance of standard test procedures, and document quality control.
  • Technical services to other ASL divisions in assisting and maintaining oceanographic instruments and to provide electronics expertise as team member in assigned projects.


  • A graduate of an Electronic Engineering Technologist Diploma Program or acceptable equivalent.

Required Skills:

  • Strong attention to detail with excellent assembly and soldering skills.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and familiarity with use of basic shop tools.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software.
  • Some heavy lifting.
  • Work effectively with other members of the project team.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience in a production environment.
  • Worldwide shipping/receiving experience.
