This position is based in Victoria which is located on the southern tip of Vancouver Island.  Victoria (regional population 330,000) is the capital of British Columbia and a community of choice for many, due to our temperate climate, natural beauty and diverse economic opportunities.  Victoria is an international resort destination with a transportation network that includes airport, helicopter and seaplane services, buses, ferry, and cruise ships.

Job Summary: 

Reporting to the Manager Technical Services, the Technical Team Lead provides a variety of services to ensure the reliability, functionality, administration and performance of the Corporation’s Infrastructure systems.  Provide technical expertise to a team of information systems professionals in IT infrastructure design and delivery projects, including loading software, providing network support for servers, monitoring systems and network performance, and reviewing distributed computing and network designs to select appropriate operational support strategies and to ensure efficient use of resources.  In conjunction with the Manager Technical Services, administers and support BC Transit’s computing environment to ensure the efficient operation, functionality and availability of the computer network and critical business applications.  Evaluates and makes recommendations to the Manager Technical Services on current and future software and hardware requirements, as well as develops proposals for, and implements, approved system enhancements.  Assists the Manager Technical Services in developing strategic plans for Server, Storage, and Network environments. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Diploma or equivalent in a related discipline 
  • Significant experience providing technical expertise to a team of IT individuals

SKILLS:
Experience must include:

  • Building, maintaining and providing support for Windows Server 2008/2012 environments;
  • VMware in a 50+ virtual server environment
  • Performance tuning and trouble-shooting skills;
  • Provision of expert level guidance to internal resources
  • Advanced knowledge of Active Directory and Group Policy
  • Expert knowledge of VMware 4 and 5
  • Advanced knowledge in managing SAN and NAS environments that are 20 TB or larger;
  • Expert knowledge with Exchange 2010 experience;
  • Enterprise Vault and file archiving experience an asset
  • Experience with Implementing Windows server security best practices in a Windows environment
  • Experience with Powershell scripting an asset;
  • Monitoring and alerting experience with Solarwinds an asset;
  • Expertise in backup and recovery and fail-over methods and best practices;

Additional Information:

  • This position requires the completion of a clear Criminal Record Check and/or Vulnerable Sector Search.
  • Successful candidate will be required to work overtime.
