To date, vendor management has not been a strategic focus; you will make supply chain improvement your torch! Your supplier relationships and solutions focus will be a key ingredient to our ability to deliver faster than our competitors.

Accountabilities

As Purchaser, you are responsible for ensuring the timely arrival of quality components at a reasonable price. You work closely with a wide variety of stakeholders throughout the organization, including Sales, Inventory Control, Engineering, and Accounting. You have a formidable ability to juggle multiple and competing priorities.

Key Responsibilities

Working together with the Inventory, Manufacturing, Engineering, and Accounting teams, you will:

  • Generate specifications in accordance with requirements
  • Source and evaluate new suppliers and sub-contractors
  • Motivate new and existing suppliers to meet AML service expectations
  • Collect and compare estimates and quotations from qualified suppliers
  • Negotiate with suppliers to achieve incremental improvement in best package (price, quality, delivery, terms, and customer service) beyond original offer
  • Select suppliers based on best purchasing package (price, quality, delivery, terms, and customer service)
  • Emit purchase orders, secure delivery commitments, and communicate AML delivery timelines and dependencies to internal team members
  • Liaise with suppliers to assure on-time delivery and problem-solve as necessary
  • Coordinate vendor returns for non-conforming items
  • Complete supplier inspections as required
  • Assist / back-up other team members as required

Required Knowledge & Skills

To be successful in this role, you will require the following experience, skills and knowledge:

  • Professional communication skills, both written and oral

  • Experience working in a technical, manufacturing environment
  • Experience working with ERP / MRP systems
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel / Word

  • Clear ability to connect electronic process (ERP, MRP, PLM, PDM) with day-to-day operations in a way that maximizes success 

You understand that your success in this role is a function of your supplier relationships, and you constantly strive to build and strengthen those relationships.  Moreover, you are technically oriented, both mechanically and electrically.

Preferred Knowledge & Skills 

In addition to the required skills listed above, the following experience, skills and knowledge are deemed advantageous:

  • Experience with the manufacture of commercial or scientific instrumentation
  • Experience purchasing electronic components and machined parts
  • Professional work experience in a customer facing role
  • Education or experience in oceanography or hydrography
  • Experience using Netsuite ERP
