Job Summary: 

Island Health is currently looking for an experienced Systems Administrator – UNIX for this new full-time position in the COS Enterprise Technical Services department.

The Systems Administrator provides support to the Enterprise Services Team with day-to-day operational and technical delivery and support of Redhat Enterprise Linux, HP-UX as well as Solaris based operating systems services. You will work independently and receive your day-to-day direction from the Specialist, UNIX Hosting Services, the Senior Systems Administrator.

Responsibilities include: analysis, development, implementation, and maintenance of the operating systems as well as related layered product software and hardware.  This effort includes responding to Service Desk incidents as well as strict adherence to Island Health’s ITIL-based Change Management policy and processes.

Along with your degree or diploma in Computer Sciences, you have 3 years experience in a recent related role. Your background demonstrates your strong communication and organizational abilities. (A combination of education, training and experience may be considered)

We are looking for the following specific areas:

  • Experience administrating RHEL 5 – 6 servers
  • Experience administrating Solaris 10 servers
  • Experience administrating HPUX 11.23 and 11.31 servers
  • Experience with Logical Volume Manager (LVM)
  • Experience with Multipath MPIO
  • Experience managing storage stemming from a SAN fibre attached storage array
  • Symantec NetBackup
  • HP Proliant hardware exposure
  • Nagios, Zabbix, Zenoss or some other form of server monitoring utility
  • Tripwire Service Console exposure
  • Ability to write in a variety of programming languages such as Shell Script, C, Perl
  • ITIL based change management
  • Solid operating system and hardware trouble shooting skills
