Job Summary: 

Reporting to the VP Finance, the Accounting Manager will lead the accounting operations for Archipelago and its foreign operations. The Accounting manager will supervise and serve as a role model for a small team and will oversee all core activities including payroll, accounts payable, invoicing, accounts receivables, credit and collection, and other general accounting processes. The Accounting Manager is responsible for the accurate and timely preparation of monthly and annual financial statements as well as routine budgeting and forecasting.  This person will also lead the development and implementation of accounting policies, procedures and internal controls.  This is a hands-on position that requires active participation in the monthly accounting work.

The Accounting Manager is expected subscribe to and promote the company's corporate values as well as the company's and corporate professional standards and objectives. They are expected to maintain the highest standard of professional competence and confidentiality through professional and personal conduct within and outside of the workplace including all forms of communications with employees and clients.

This position is based on a 37.5 hour week, but some evening, weekend and on-call work may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Complete month end reconciliations and journal entries
  • Prepare and review monthly financial statements and management reports
  • Prepare annual financial statements and coordinate annual audit processes
  • Analyze business operations, trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations to project future revenues, expenses and cash flows
  • Liaise with business managers to develop relevant management reports
  • Oversee administration of credit policy and collection of overdue accounts
  • Prepare statutory filings and remittances
  • Maintain records and reconciliation controls of approved budgets
  • Record and maintain fixed asset purchases and applicable depreciation and amortization schedules
  • Ensure appropriate compliance with ASPE/IFRS
  • Recruit, hire, train and supervise accounting staff
  • Develop, implement or modify record keeping and accounting systems
  • Develop and implement accounting procedures, policies and internal controls
  • Maintain a strong working relationship with business operations and other divisions

Required Qualifications

  • A formal accounting designation (CA, CGA, CMA)
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a comparable role
  • Demonstrated team leadership skills
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS/ASPE
  • Experience with international accounting and company consolidations
  • Experience with annual audit coordination
  • Exceptional level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including sound judgment and the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with ERP systems such as Tenrox and GP Dynamics
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with ability to see the big picture
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite – advanced working knowledge of Excel and strong database skills
  • Experience working with global companies is an asset
  • Possess sound judgment
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Capable of following established systems, but not afraid to make suggestions to improve efficiencies
  • Ability to professionally and positivity interact with people at levels of the organization
