Job Summary: 

Position: Manufacturing Planner

Summary of Position

The Manufacturing Scheduler/Planner develops and maintains production scheduling systems and finite capacity planning tools to accurately and reliably schedule manufacturing work centers.

Work is performed under the general direction of the Production Supervisor. Strong attention to detail and consistently high quality workmanship are required.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Work closely with Manufacturing supervision to commit delivery dates to customers considering manufacturing capacity and loaded demand – maintaining >95% on time delivery.
  • Measure daily manufacturing performance versus plan, and work with manufacturing and engineering to determine and communicate corrective actions to maintain on-plan performance.
  • Supports inventory management systems and processes in conjunction with procurement functions to ensure all material resource requirements are in place in line with production plan, whilst minimizing inventory holdings.
  • Generates and maintains the Master Production Schedule (MPS) & evaluates the need for MPS changes based on daily and weekly production activity.
  • Analyzes demand & supply balance at the plant & master schedule levels, determining out-of-balance conditions, identifying alternatives & recommending action for approval.
  • Monitors the manufacturing performance against the MPS & the execution of the schedule to evaluate results assisting in the development of future plans.
  • Reviews & resolves schedule problems, avoids potential problems resulting from schedule changes, determines the necessity for MPS changes, taking appropriate action based on impact to short & long range production/capacity, & recommends changes to the production schedule.
  • Monitors planned input against planned output, review pareto data to identify problems & takes corrective action, updating users & management as required.
  • Develops working knowledge of company’s products & processes to ensure optimal master schedule stability, order creation, rescheduling, & level loading. Understands bottleneck & constraint management philosophies & techniques for resolution.
  • Performs data mining activities to generate reports that provide concise & accurate info for process improvement initiatives & measurable efficiency gains. Additionally provides data that tracks WIP aging, scrap, rework, yields & other impacts on Labor efficiency, equipment utilization & material planning.
  • Establishes & maintains customer lead-times based on material availability, capacity input, cycle time analysis & process improvement gains.
  • Creates, monitors and track the purchase order process beginning with PO assignment to the ending with the delivery of the goods to the customer

Qualifications required:

  • Degree/ Diploma in a business or technical related area or an equivalent combination of education.
  • Experience and demonstrated knowledge of master scheduling and capacity planning.
  • Must demonstrate a flexible and collaborative approach to problem solving
  • General knowledge of production techniques, standards, manufacturing and quality control principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of electronic industry is an asset.
  • Proficient computer skills with MS Office

Experience required:

  •  Demonstrated knowledge of supply chain management principles.
  •  Minimum of three years of commercial ERP software experience is required.
