Job Summary: 

Reporting to the IT Manager, the Systems Support Specialist will be based in the Victoria office but will work closely with the rest of the IT team, based in Burnaby.  In addition to providing day-to-day support of Victoria-based Quartech employees and contractors, the Systems Support Specialist will be responsible for maintaining, supporting and documenting the Victoria infrastructure.  The Victoria-based Systems Support Specialist may also collaborate and work remotely on Burnaby-based infrastructure projects.    Since Quartech Systems Ltd is a Microsoft Gold Partner, the internal IT environment is predominately a Microsoft environment.

Major Responsibilities

The Systems Support Specialist will have several responsibilities.  These will include the following:

  • Primary contact for Victoria data center, helpdesk, phone system, printers, and projectors
  • Provides tier 1 / tier 2 support, remotely and in person, to Quartech employees and contractors
  • Troubleshoots a wide variety of desktop and user issues within an enterprise IT environment
  • Coordinates and performs company-wide desktop deployments from the Victoria office
  • Ensures that the Quartech infrastructure in Victoria is reliable, secure, and up to date
  • Performs local server maintenance, support, and infrastructure documentation within a Microsoft environment
  • Deploys, maintains, and supports a variety of environments (including Linux) for an internal Development team
  • Effectively communicates technical information to non-technical audiences
  • Provides end user training on Quartech systems, tools, and IT-related processes
  • Works collaboratively with fellow team members, IT manager, and others
  • Reports on project statuses, issues, risks, and system metrics
  • Contributes to Burnaby-based infrastructure projects and initiatives, as needed
  • Performs other IT-related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

The following qualifications will be expected for this position:

  • University degree in computer science or equivalent technical college/institute diploma
  • Minimum 2 years related experience in a professional, enterprise IT environment
  • Experience providing superior desktop support in person and remotely

Desired Skills and Experience

The following technical skills and experience will be expected for this position:

  • Solid experience solving a variety of desktop and user issues within an enterprise IT environment
  • Ability to support and troubleshoot WAN/LAN server hardware and software within a highly available and secure networking environment
  • Experience with Remote Desktop Services, site to site VPN, SSL VPN, remote access and network protocols

The following additional experience will be beneficial for this position:

  • Microsoft certification (desktop support, operating systems, or similar)
  • ITIL certification
  • Experience with Microsoft Exchange (preferably 2010), Active Directory, Group Policy, Systems Center, Windows Servers (preferably 2008 R2 or 2012 R2), SQL Server (preferably 2008 R2 or 2012)
  • Experience with workstation deployment technologies such as Microsoft Deployment Toolkit
  • Experience with Hyper-V, and/or VOIP
  • Basic knowledge of network security
  • Basic knowledge of Unix OS
