Business Development Representative

SendtoNews is disrupting the current media landscape by providing its News Partner Network™, a proprietary distribution network of news publishers and broadcasters, with previously unavailable “premium” sports video highlights. The SendtoNews business model is an entirely new concept and requires ongoing outreach to newspaper, television and radio media outlets across North America.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Sports Syndication the Business Development Representative’s responsibility is to grow the SendtoNews’ News Partner Network™, its proprietary distribution network of news publishers and broadcasters, by developing new partnership leads, cold calling potential partners, managing existing partner relationships and providing exemplary partner support.

1. Business Development

In addition to carrying out the above duties, the Business Development Representative will work closely with the SendtoNews advertising team to research opportunities to develop and execute on advertising campaigns within Canada and the United States.

Activities will include:

  • Researching and navigating through the structures of various publishing groups to locate key decision makers.
  • Developing and executing sales outreach strategies to source new leads and initiating contact with potential distribution partners that are not currently utilizing sports video highlights.
  • Working with SendtoNews’ existing publishing partners to ensure on-boarding of its Advanced Media Player™ our video players while striving for premium “above-the-fold” placement.
  • Managing partner relationships to maintain the highest standard of responsiveness and customer support.

2. Sales and Communications Support 

The Business Development Representative will also be working closely with the advertising sales team in the field to identify potential opportunities via SendtoNews’ News Partner Network, as well as conducting market research and working on initiatives to assist with the distribution ramp-up of premium sports content so that the advertising sales team can meet their viewership performance objectives. 

When needed, the Business Development Representative may also be called upon to assist the communications department with outbound communications, such as company announcements, that may be delivered via newswire and social media as well as posted to industry periodicals and blogs.

Activities will include:

  • Working closely with SendtoNews content team to uncover the most sought after content and reporting its availability to SendtoNews distribution partners to ensure maximum uptake.
  • Identify potential leads for content uptake and new partnership opportunities by searching trending story headlines; visiting popular sports portals and matching with relevant content available through SendtoNews’ content partners.
  • Utilizing Salesforce effectively to develop Sales Pipeline Reports and manage customer relations.
  • Working closely with the VP of Communications on activities to assist in improving the visibility of the company with its key stakeholders: content contributors (leagues and teams), news outlets (broadcasters and publishers) and advertisers (brands and agencies).

Skills and Experience

  • Capability of working in a dynamic start-up environment with minimal supervision
  • Excellent written and verbal English communications 
  • Outgoing personality
  • Comfortable with working the telephone - making company introductions (cold calls) and tracking down key decision makers will be a key function of this role
  • Some sales experience would be preferred
  • An inherent interest in sports and an underlying knowledge of sports would be a valued asset
