This position is based in Victoria which is located on the southern tip of Vancouver Island. Victoria is an international resort destination with a transportation network that includes airport, helicopter and seaplane services, buses, ferry, and cruise ships.

Job Summary: 

The Supervisor leads a team of infrastructure specialists to resolve end user hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion.  S/he will provide senior level technical expertise in all areas of IT infrastructure, including; initiation and delivery of projects, directing the design and build of network and server environments, supervision of systems for performance and capacity monitoring, and reviewing distributed computing and network designs to select appropriate operational support strategies and to ensure efficient use of resources.  The Supervisor will also manage project and operational budgets and work with various stakeholders across the company.  S/he will evaluate and makes recommendations to the IS senior management team on current and future software and hardware requirements, as well as develop proposals for, and implement, approved system enhancements and will develop strategic plans for Server, Storage, and Network environments.   The Supervisor will be responsible for staff recruitment and employee performance management and the evaluation of contracted service provision.

Education and Technical Requirements:

  • University degree in computer science or related discipline; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Significant experience in managing/supervisor IT technical staff
  • Significant experience leading the building, maintenance and support for Windows Server 2008/2012 environments;
  • Experience working with VMware in a 50+ virtual server environment
  • Ability to provide leadership to staff in performance tuning and trouble-shooting skills;
  • Provision of expert level guidance to internal resources
  • Advanced knowledge of Active Directory and Group Policy
  • Expert knowledge of VMware 5
  • Advanced knowledge in managing SAN and NAS environments that are 20 TB or larger;
  • Expert knowledge with Exchange 2010 experience;
  • Enterprise Vault and file archiving experience an asset
  • Experience with Implementing Windows server security best practices in a Windows environment
  • High level network experience with Cisco technologies, including VoIP and wireless technologies;
  • Enterprise monitoring and alerting experience with Solar winds an asset;
  • Expertise in backup and recovery and fail-over methods and best practices;
