Job Summary: 

Reporting to the Manager, Information Technology the Support Technician will be responsible for the first and second level support of the technical environment. The Support Technician will be required to balance phone, desktop and application support with a constant flow of technical inquiries. Microsoft Windows 7/Office 2013/Office 365 and network troubleshooting skills are required, in addition to a “can-do” attitude with an emphasis on extraordinary customer service skills.

General Description and Responsibilities 

  • Manage the current internal Helpdesk systems process of tracking Carmanah staff requests, problems, and resolutions as per IT protocols, service levels and standards.  Reporting Helpdesk activities, including identifying common themes and make recommendation to reduce common issues.
  • Provide software and hardware technical support including diagnosing and evaluating problem to determine appropriate response and referral, prioritization and escalation required based on service level standards, and follow-up to bring issue to closure.
  • Perform weekly backup routine and test backup data integrity.
  • Provide installation, configuration, tracking, auditing & maintenance of client work stations, printers, and mobile devices for Carmanah staff across all regions.
  • Provide system performance tuning, routine audits, operating system updates, patches and configuration changes to servers, workstations and network devices.
  • Provide first and second-level server side and network device support in areas of account administration, group policy management, daily health checks etc., under supervision of the Manager of Information Technologies.

Skills and Requirements 

  • Post-secondary certificate, diploma or training in or related to computer technology preferred.
  • 2 to 3 years’ experience in an IT technical support role required.
  • Experience managing Microsoft Windows-based systems.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Proven excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills when dealing with internal and external customers.
  • Knowledge of computing and network hardware and peripheral equipment. 
  • Ability to install, configure & maintain client work stations, printers and mobile devices.
  • Ability to identify and resolve computer system malfunctions and operational problems.
  • Ability to learn and support new systems and applications.
  • Responsibilities may require evening and weekend work in response to needs of the systems being supported.
