Job Summary: 

We have an exciting opportunity for someone with exceptional organizational skills to join our team as a Purchasing Assistant.  The right candidate is dedicated to Best Purchasing Practices, enjoys multi-tasking, and delivering professional customer service to a variety of departments and stakeholders.

This position, reporting to the Supply Chain Manager, requires strong interpersonal skills, consistent attention to detail, and a dedication to working with a multi-disciplined team of professionals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage inventory stock levels through ordering Production and Service consumables, expediting and tracking goods, to facilitate timely and cost-effective operations.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with vendors; solicit quotes as required to meet the needs of company operations.
  • Maintain computer-based records in an ERP system, and investigate discrepancies.
  • Determine and assign HS (Harmonized Tariff) coding within an ERP system as required.
  • Act as backup to the Logistics Coordinator and all members of the Supply Chain Group as required.
  • Support other departments purchasing requirements as needed (Admin, IT, R & D, Sales, etc.)
  • Resolve Non-Conformance Reports (NCR) and invoice discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Participate in inventory counts and reporting.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum three years related purchasing experience.
  • Prior experience with a wide range of suppliers.
  • Experience developing and maintaining accurate records in ERP systems, ideally EPICOR.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office Suite (particularly Excel and Outlook).
  • Exceptional ability to plan, multi-task and prioritize work to meet time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Capacity to work independently, using initiative to resolve issues, in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and written.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

  • APICS/PMAC coursework, or purchasing designation, is a definite asset; some financial assistance may be available to support professional development costs for the right candidate.
  • Experience preparing outbound customs documentation.
  • Knowledge of HS (Harmonized Tariff) coding required for customs documentation.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working with metalwork and/or electronic suppliers.
  • Experience working in an ISO registered manufacturing environment would be a definite asset.
