Systems Analyst – IT1

IT Services, Data & Applications Administration

Reporting to the Manager, IT Services Data & Applications Administration, you will be working primarily, but not exclusively, in a Microsoft environment supporting, enhancing, developing and integrating various software systems for the university.  You will be responsible for designing and developing application code to meet specified business requirements, providing diagnostic support, administration and maintenance for application systems, conducting system design and code reviews, facilitating automation and seeking ways to change inefficient processes.  You will also participate in matrix teams in different roles, including team/project lead as required.

To be well suited to the role you will possess the following qualifications and competencies:

  • Must have a degree or diploma in Computer Science or related discipline
  • A minimum of two (2) years experience as a Programmer Analyst is preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in building functional specifications and coding to prepared specifications
  • An in-depth understanding of information systems, the system development life cycle (SDLC), and unit testing
  • Ability to communicate complex and technical ideas to others in plain language
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong customer service focus (excellent customer service skills; motivated to provide quality service and technical support)
  • Excellent communication skills - capable and comfortable with providing assistance/support via phone, e-mail or in a face to face environment
  • Proven ability to work well independently and as part of a team in a sometimes ambiguous and high pressure environment  
  • Strong analytical and problem solving abilities (ie: testing, troubleshooting)
  • Well organized, project oriented and the ability to multi-task
  • Advanced knowledge of current and cutting edge technologies
  • Experience in project management is an asset
