Job Summary: 

Island Health is looking for an experienced Senior Systems Administrator – LINUX. 

Reporting to the Manager, Enterprise Technical Services, you will receive day-to-day direction from the Team Lead and Technical Specialist for the team. In this role, you will provide the technical delivery, and day-to-day operational support, of all Linux systems within the Enterprise Services team as well as provide work direction to other staff including Programmer Analysts.

Your background demonstrates your ability to provide leadership, analysis, development, implementation, and maintenance of the operating systems as well as related layered product software and hardware. Responsibilities include giving direction, leading and overseeing the installation, configuration, and regular maintenance of Linux-based server infrastructure including operating systems, network connectivity, direct attached and SAN storage, memory, cpu, tape, controllers, clustering services, and other related hardware components.

This effort includes responding to Service Desk incidents as well as strict adherence to Island Health’s ITIL-based Change Management policy and processes.  Conducts problem identification and resolves technical issues using various software and hardware diagnostic tools and by following IM/IT incident and change management procedures and processes.

Creates, writes, and/or modifies software code and scripts (such as C, Perl, and Shell Scripts) as needed to perform systems administration duties.

Requirements/Skills
Ideally you have at least 4 years, recent related experience in addition to your degree or diploma in Computer Sciences. Your background demonstrates your strong communication and organizational abilities. (A combination of education, training and experience may be considered)

We are looking for skills in the following specific areas:

  • Extensive experience administrating and supporting RHEL v5 and v6 server environments
  • Experience with Logical Volume Manager (LVM) and RHEL clustering technologies
  • Experience with Multipath MPIO and managing storage presented from SAN storage array
  • Solid operating system and hardware troubleshooting skills
  • Familiar with supporting Symantec NetBackup client technologies
  • Experience managing and configuring HP Proliant hardware
  • Familiar with Nagios, Tripwire Service Console, HPSIM, and other RHEL server monitoring utilities
  • Ability to write in a variety of programming languages such as Shell Script, C, Perl
  • Experience following ITIL based change management processes
  • Experience administrating Solaris 10 and HPUX 11.23 and 11.31 servers would be an asset
