Job Summary: 

Report Writer - Victoria

We are currently recruiting for a Report Writer in Victoria. This is a full-time permanent position and will report to the PMO Scope Manager.

The principal tasks and responsibilities entail:

  • Creates complex database reports and Business Intelligence dashboards based on end users specifications or requirements.
  • Provides analytical and technical support for complex requests, projects, or initiatives.
  • Captures specified document user requirements, gathering report objectives, required data and specifications.
  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of management reports based on developed views, using Crystal Reports and QlikView reporting applications.
  • Extracts data and runs reports from an existing library and creates new reports/ modifies existing reports as appropriate.
  • Works with the information Services department to ensure appropriate governance is applied and adhered to in accordance with corporate policies.
  • Performs data validation to ensure reports are pulling all correct data accurately and achieving customer needs.
  • Develops reports and extracts from multiple data sources working with the Information Services department to determine the best source of data
  • Interprets requirements into specifications for developers as needed for reports/ extracts requiring programming.
  • Working with other members of the Information Services group to meet EDWP management reporting requirements.
  • Performs similar work for other Babcock Canada departments as directed.
  • Other duties as directed.

The job qualifications and requirements include:

  • Degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience is required.
  • A certification in report writing tools as appropriate to position is desired.
  • Must have strong understanding and experience of SQL and PL/SQL
  • Minimum of three year’s directly related experience required.
  • Experience with data repository design and maintenance and database administration and complex reporting analysis.
  • Crystal Server Administration is preferred, but not required. Experience with other reporting applications an asset.
  • Technical and/ or business experience with demonstrable professional growth.
  • Experience in a Defence/ Engineering industry is preferred.
  • Experience with problem and issue resolution preferred.
  • Strong collaboration and consulting skills, committed to providing exceptional customer service and responding to user needs in a prompt, courteous manner.
  • Strong technical skills in report writing and reporting tools required, such as SQL, Crystal XI, Business Intelligence or other reporting tools; Qlikview knowledge would be advantageous.
  • Strong written, verbal and presentation skills with the ability to communicate complex technical issues in terms clearly understood by technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Self-motivated, self-directed and independent thinking as well as an effective team player.
  • Technical writing skills with experience in gathering and documenting user requirements and the ability to produce documents ranging from specifications to user manuals.
  • Good knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and presentation computer programs, preferably Microsoft.
  • Experience working in a large scale organization with ERP systems desired
  • Able to work effectively alone and within a team.

Candidates must be eligible for a secret security clearance.
