Job Summary: 

The Product Development Team requires a System Engineering Technologist to assist in the design and development of environmental monitoring systems, both land and marine applications.  This position will involve the design of land based structures and mounting systems, electronics and sensor packaging solutions and the design of marine buoy systems, including hull design, material selection, mooring design, construction processes and fatigue and motion analysis. 

This role requires a person who is mature, well rounded and has the ability to multitask and work in a fast paced, demanding and dynamic environment.  While working alongside a cohesive team, the ideal candidate is able to meet tight deadlines independently with little supervision.                                                       

Specific Requirements:

  • Experienced in an electro-mechanical manufacturing and engineering environment producing equipment for extreme outdoor and marine use.
  • Experience with formal documentation management, excellent reading and writing skills, and proven task/project management success is required.
  • Ability to effectively manage information from multiple sources including client/sales requirements, system specifications, in-house and supplier component documentation.
  • Creation of design output documentation, including detailed electrical drawings, component layout drawings, block diagrams, assembly work instructions, check sheets, ECN’s and the creation and maintenance of bills of materials.
  • Knowledgeable selection of electrical and mechanical components: consulting with suppliers, engineers, and manufactures as required with awareness to safety and codes as required.
  • An excellent understanding of proper wiring, soldering and assembly techniques: providing the highest reliability required for harsh marine environments.A working knowledge of electromagnetic compatibility best practices.
  • A good mechanical aptitude, with hands on experience and an ability to provide good direction to production technicians.
  • Ability to follow established processes and best practices and to contribute to their continuous improvement.
  • Identify opportunities for improvements in quality, cost, or efficiency of existing designs.
  • Excellent communications skills, with strong written and verbal communications and a positive attitude
  • Ability to prioritize tasks; maintain work flow; and meet deadlines and goals.
  • Ability to ask for help, make decisions, and drive issues to resolution.
  • Knowledge or experience with quality assurance (ISO9001) processes
  • Experience in using device/sensor software or the creation of setup files to achieve desired system configuration
  • Must have experience in the operation of standard electronic test equipment (oscilloscopes, DMM, power supplies, and test fixtures etc) for the effective characterization, troubleshooting and diagnosis of design components.

Qualifications:

  • Engineering Technologist diploma with applicable experience.
  • Strong working experience and proficient with;
    • CAD
    • ERP/MRP
    • Engineering Document Control
    • Microsoft Office.
