 Learning Technologist

Centre for Teaching and Educational Technologies

Reporting to the Manager, Course Production, you will be responsible for course production and quality, as well as user training, support and documentation in both English and Mandarin at Royal Roads University.  You will support the production of courses by creating, adapting, or sourcing appropriate technology solutions to support learning, verify course quality against specified criteria, and ensure anomalies are identified and corrected as required.  Additionally, you will support the Centre in ongoing process improvement and researching and testing new technologies.

To be well suited to the role you will possess the following qualifications and competencies:

  • Bilingual fluency in Mandarin and English, including strong translation skills
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in relevant field, plus minimum one year relevant combination of skills and experience
  • Strong technical web skills (html, css, web layout, writing for the web, etc.) including demonstrated experience coding to prepared specifications
  • Strong analytical and problem solving abilities (i.e. testing, troubleshooting) and technical computing skills in both PC and Mac environments
  • Demonstrated ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines with a high attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate complex and technical ideas to others in plain language
  • Skilled in the technical production of quality images, audio and video for a web environment
  • Experience with the following is considered an asset:
  • Technical support for Moodle and Blackboard Collaborate (or similar)
  • E-learning trends, issues and technologies
  • Ability to work independently, and as a positive contributing member of a team, in a changing and innovative institutional environment
  • Commitment to contributing to a work environment that is sensitive to the effect of personal language and actions on others
  • A professional approach to maintaining positive relationships and resolving conflict in order to promote a respectful and harmonious work environment
  • Commitment to positive, professional relations with clients and external organizations in order to support university objectives of excellence in service

This is a temporary full-time position working 37.5 hours per week on campus for approximately one year, with the possibility of extension dependent on operational needs.  The position has been evaluated at Grade 3 with a recruitment range that starts at $42,864 per annum.  The university is pleased to offer a percentage of salary in lieu of vacation.
