Job Summary: 

xMatters is hiring an Operations Engineer who has a proven track record designing, delivering and maintaining performant, scalable and reliable services. In this role, you will work as part of a development scrum team, involved with operational projects like deployment, monitoring, application design, emergency response and support, infrastructure implementation, etc. This position requires cross-team collaboration and communication - you'll work with other engineers and product managers to deliver secure, highly-available, mission-critical systems. The ideal candidate will be passionate about repeatability, simplicity and implementing automated solutions for manual task work while using software and agile engineering principles.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Identifying operational gaps in feature planning
  • Participating in planning poker sessions and shirt sizing
  • Implementing operational aspects of user stories such as rate limiting, monitoring hooks, etc
  • Responsibility for deployment of system and software changes to production in a consistent and repeatable fashion
  • Building out real time monitoring for production system metrics
  • Ensuring proper management of test and staging environments
  • Being the primary point of contact for production incidents within your team
  • Working alongside other Operations Engineers on other teams to design and develop solutions
  • On-call third-level support
  • Requirements
  • A degree or diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 8+ years experience in systems administration or related role
  • Strong experience with a high level language (e.g. Python, Ruby, Java)
  • Strong scripting skills (e.g. Bash)
  • System administration of *nix platforms
  • Knowledge and experience with public, private, and hybrid clouds
  • Experience with distributed systems and deploying at scale
  • Working knowledge of monitoring tools such as Nagios, Zenoss or Monit
  • Experience with configuration management tools like Puppet
  • Experience with automation technologies such as Fabric
  • Working knowledge of network components and application delivery, load balancers, etc.
  • Solid understanding of build and continuous deployment systems
  • Strong troubleshooting skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills and problem solving skills

Stuff That Earns You Bonus Points
