Job Summary: 

FTS is looking for a Software Team Manager to join their growing team of professionals who take tremendous pride and joy in the outstanding work they do in supporting our environment. 

The Software Team Manager will continue building and leading a top-notch software development team within FTS.  A new position to FTS, the Manager will implement key development processes that enable the software team to consistently deliver robust, high-quality software as part of the overall Product Development Lifecycle. This position will provide technical leadership and mentoring to the development team, as well as oversight and project management of internal projects and external resources as needs dictate.

Ideal candidates will bring a degree in Computer Science or Computer/Software Engineering; at least 10 years relevant industry experience building robust software systems; five years technical leadership and people management experience; experience building software teams; and hands-on programming capabilities.  Experience with lean/agile software development methodologies is also required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identify and hire talented software professionals, then make them successful with FTS
  • Manage the software development process and drive technical projects to completion
  • Provide leadership in an innovative and fast-paced environment
  • Ensure the quality of work produced by ensuring standards and processes are followed
  • Implement or develop new standards and processes where necessary
  • Disseminate product and business strategy to software team
  • Clearly communicate technical challenges, resource constraints and development plans to senior management
  • Contribute technically to projects throughout the product portfolio

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • BSc in Computer Science or Computer/Software Engineering
  • 10 years of relevant industry experience building robust software systems
  • 5 years of technical leadership and people management experience (managing teams of 8+ developers)
  • Hands-on programming capabilities in C, C++ and/or Java
  • Demonstrable experience building and managing a productive software team
  • Solid experience with lean / agile software development methodologies like Scrum, Kanban, etc.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Able to lead by example, maintain team morale and help people contribute to their maximum potential
  • Passionate about delivering customer value through technology
  • Current knowledge of developing trends, but grounded in delivering practical value to team and organization
  • Strong analytical skills including a thorough understanding of how to interpret customer business needs and translate them into functional and operational requirements for FTS products
  • Comfortable operating in a highly dynamic environment
  • Able to debate requirements, in a respectful and productive manner (e.g. present and discuss ideas and solutions with developers, non-technical staff and customers)
  • Able to foster strong relationships with business units, technology teams and support teams

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience as Senior Architect in private sector environment preferred
  • Experience with low-power hardware systems
  • Exposure to environmental monitoring industry
