Job Summary: 

The Opportunity: Manager, IT Infrastructure - Vancouver Island University

The Manager, IT Infrastructure’s role is to plan, direct and coordinate the design, installation and operation of computer and network systems to ensure efficient and effective delivery of Information Technology (IT) services to the university. This includes directing the activities of a team of approximately fourteen technicians in the day to day implementation, maintenance and problem resolution for desktop computer, server, storage, network, device software and monitoring tools.

The Manager, IT Infrastructure identifies trends and new developments in IT technology and leads the investigation, planning and implementation of new services and improvements to existing services in support of the Academic Plan and integrated plans of the university.

The position will collaborate with other universities, cooperative services (e.g., BCNet), and vendors on joint initiatives to improve services and reduce costs.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experience:

  • A degree in Computer Science or Information Systems;
  • Ten years of experience supervising a technical team plus extensive experience supporting computing technologies in a medium to large scale distributed virtual environment;
  • Evidence of progressive education and training in computing technologies, project management, and human resource management principles, practices and procedures;  Certifications in ITIL, Project Management, VMware and IT Security are definite assets;
  • Strong leadership skills, experience motivating staff and focusing on core issues; and
  • Excellent communications skills both written and verbal.
