Job Summary: 

The Quality Assurance Automation Lead will create and execute automated test scripts using Oracle Application Test Suite on selective client Penfax applications to ensure that the software systems meet requirements and are delivered with minimal defects. The Quality Assurance Automation Lead will work in a collaborative fashion with the JEA Project Managers, JEA Business Analysts, and/or directly with the client on the testing activities. The Quality Assurance Automation Lead will report to the Quality Assurance Practice Lead for overall direction and work assignments.

Duties and Responsibilities of position

Independently or as part of an internal or external team the Quality Assurance Automation Lead is responsible for:

  • Develop, maintain, and execute automated test suites for various Penfax products;
  • Participate in assessment of risks associated with a product and devise appropriate tests to verify mitigation of identified risks.
  • Improve automated testing and develop the next iteration of automated script-based testing
  • Work with the project team to create a suite of reusable automated regression test scripts
  • Work with the project team to create and maintain an automated nightly build verification (smoke) test.
  • Ensure proper version control and configuration management of all test objects developed and test environments used.
  • Accurately report and track results
  • Research and document defect reports following agreed-upon processes immediately upon discovery of a quality problem.
  • Update test execution status following agreed-upon processes as part of regularly-scheduled test status updates.
  • Trace test cases and results back to specific quality risks.
  • Assist the Test Lead in the creation of test project status reports and metrics.
  • Provide the Test Lead with accurate and precise estimates for assigned task duration, along with confidence levels and foreseeable dependencies.
  • Assist the Test Lead in preparing test plans, and schedules.
  • Provide training and technical guidance to QA analysts assigned to assist the QA Automation Lead.
  • Develop and maintain good professional working relationships, especially within the test team and with those who interact regularly with the test team.
  • Focus on the important testing and project priorities as agreed-upon with the Test Lead.
  • Effectively balance curiosity about tests, test results, and defects with project constraints on budget and schedule.
  • Maintain test databases and testing documentation.

Experience/skills required for position

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the system development process using a structured development methodology.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a formal testing or QA role including the development of test plans, test scenarios and test cases.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience testing COTS products
  • Minimum of 4 years Java experience.
  • Minimum of 4 years automated test development and execution experience.
  • Experience with Oracle Application Testing Suite desirable.
  • Must be able to obtain Canadian Government security clearance
  • Ability to comprehend system specification documentation such as Requirements, Functional Specifications, System Design or Programming Specification documents, in order to identify testing requirements.
  • Experience with Oracle development including the build, configuration and release processes.
  • Must be capable of writing SQL queries.
  • Must be well versed in the software Quality Assurance discipline including a solid understanding of testing techniques.
  • Must be able to work in a collaborative manner with internal and external stakeholders
  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to work independently or as a cooperative member of a team.
  • Must be flexible to changing demands and priorities and function well in a matrix managed environment
  • Experience in administration of defined benefit pension plans is desirable.

Education/formal training requirements

  • Must have a post-secondary degree or diploma in computer science in information technology.
  • It is desirable, but not necessary, that the incumbent have QA certification of one of the following:
    • Certified Software Quality Analyst (CSQA)
    • Certified Software Tester (CSTE)
    • Software Quality Engineer Certification (CSQE)
    • Quality Improvement Associate Certification (CQIA).
