Job Summary: 

AbeBooks, an Amazon company, is looking for a senior HR professional to join our team. This is an HR leadership role at AbeBooks.  The role provides both hands-on and strategic human resources leadership in the areas of employee relations, management coaching and development, succession planning, strong project management of HR initiatives & company-wide HR projects including automation projects, and policy review and implementation, etc. This role will report to the CEO.

Key responsibilities:

  • Work with senior management to develop and implement HR plans and solutions to achieve strategic business initiatives and deliver results
  • Partner with business on organizational design, workforce planning, succession planning, skills assessment, and talent development
  • Review and analyze business unit data to identify trends and recommend solutions to improve performance, retention, and employee experience
  • Provide management coaching to build leadership capabilities to address and resolve employee issues
  • Work with line managers and employees to address all types of employee relations issues ensuring a balance in representing all parties’ interests
  • Partner with international HR team to support business unit initiatives
  • Assess business unit’s human resources training needs and support the delivery of appropriate training and development programs
  • Implement, administer, and ensure consistent application of HR policies/programs/procedures
  • Provide leadership for employment practices
  • Maintain a strong focus on employee relations, performance management, engagement and retention strategies and activities
  • Ensure outstanding customer focus by delivering value-add, best in class HR support to internal customer groups
  • Manage the onsite HR team providing career development and performance management support
  • Provide compensation support including salary planning, approval of salary actions, promotions and job re-leveling

Basic Qualifications:

  • Ability to influence and partner with different levels of the organization to achieve results
  • Strong business and HR acumen, including strong problem solving skills, critical thinking, and self-initiative
  • Demonstrated ability to coach managers and supervisors to use HR best practices for maximum effectiveness
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills; high quality document and report preparation
  • Understanding of technology teams and how to grow and develop technology leaders
  • Excellent presentation skills and knowledge of employment laws such as the BC Employment Standards Act, PIPEDA, and other federal and provincial laws covering employment
  • Proven ability to successfully work as a team member and to build and maintain a positive work environment across the network
  • Experience working in an entrepreneurial environment requiring strong multi-tasking abilities
  • Experience with MS Office Suite
  • Able to travel, as appropriate
  • Experience in the development and administration of HR compensation plans
  • Experience with assessing talent
  • Knowledge of employment laws
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent post-secondary degree required in Human Resources Management or related field
  • 7+ years of experience in an HR leadership role
  • Experience managing performance

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree or MBA in Human Resources Management or related field preferred
