This is an exciting opportunity to join CGI in a permanent position in Victoria, BC, to provide leading IT services to our local clients a Data Architect.

We are currently seeking a senior level Data Architect resource that will be accountable for the technical leadership, planning, conversion and migration support for the data conversion activities of a major renewal project. At a minimum, the resource will be responsible for the following activities:

Key Responsibilities:

• Gather data requirements and transform them into data structures in OLTP and OLAP settings
• Review and validate metadata and data conversion requirements
• Analyze developed data schemas and xml models to ensure metadata and data conversion specifications are complete
• Review use of data conversion tools
• Provisioning of complex data extracts from a variety of databases to fulfill on-going data requests
• Analyse and validate conversion/migration processes
• Review and validate data conversion/migration test and reconciliation plans
• Participate in implementation activities related to data reporting and distribution
• Participate in all levels of testing related to conversion and migration
• Identify downstream data distribution requirements and validate Vendor solution strategy and implementation
• Recommends solutions to complex data integration challenges
• Devises Master Data Management strategies and assists large organisations in implementing these strategies

Key Experience Required:

•Experience in systems analysis and design in medium or large systems environments;
•Experience in the use of CASE tools for the development and documentation of data architectures and detailed data models;
•Experience in the use of data modelling methods and tools, including but not limited to Oracle Designer and Enterprise Architect, including a working knowledge of metadata structures, repository functions and data dictionaries;
•Advanced skills in analysis and query scripting languages for Oracle and SQL Server databases;
•Advanced skills with XML/XSD and XML Schemas;
•Experience with Temporal Database Concepts and Standards;
•Knowledge of Temporal Database concepts and related emerging standards;
•Expect knowledge of SQL;
•Experience with regulatory data collection and analysis systems;
•Experience working with single and multi-dimensional data schemas, metadata, and DPA rules;
•Experience with development and scripting in Unix and SQL;
•Experience working as a Data Architect on large multi-client projects

Key Qualifications:

•8 or more years’ experience as a Data Architect/Modeller;
•8 or more years’ experience in the development and implementation of data architectures;
•Experience in structured methodologies for the design, development and implementation of applications;
•Knowledge of performance considerations for different database designs in different environments;
•Knowledge of and experience in the use of information retrieval software packages;
•Awareness of emerging IT trends and directions;
•Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills;
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and interpersonal and negotiation skills;
•Experience in monitoring and enforcing data modelling and normalization standards; and
•Experience in developing enterprise architecture deliverables (e.g. models).

Desirable skills include:

-Experience with middleware and gateways;
-Experience with ETL tools;
-Experience with Business Intelligence products;
-Experience in designing and developing an automated data distribution mechanism;
-Knowledge and understanding of object-oriented analysis and design techniques;

Specific Educational Requirements/Accreditations:

Ideally, a University or College degree in Computer Science or related field is preferred;
-Strong qualifications as outlined in this posting will be considered in the absence of this educational requirement.
