Position Overview

Reporting to the Division Manager of Outdoor Lighting, the Sales Engineer will be actively involved in the technical evaluation and specification stage of the sales process working in conjunction with both internal and Distributor sales teams as the key technical advisor and product advocate.  This includes critical assessment of specifications and competing products.  The Sales Engineer is able to articulate the technology and product positioning to both business and technical users. This position must possess the ability to identify all technical issues and assure complete customer satisfaction of our product.  

General Responsibilities

  • Sales support
    • Support sales teams by providing product expertise related to performance specifications & limitations of all components of solar street lighting systems.
    • Assist sales with presentations of technical material to customers.
    • Collaborate with sales managers to establish and manage project scope and timelines.
    • Work with sales team to provide detailed RFP documentation.
    • Establish & maintain working relationships with channel partner/distributor technical representatives, and support the development of their technical capabilities.
  • Product development support
  • Conduct in-depth needs analysis with our customers related to technical requirements and specifications.
  • Contribute to product development process including offering “voice-of-the-customer” input and competitive insights.
  • Liaise with Product Development to understand product performance data analysis reports and provide recommendations to Product Development and Product Management for product/process design, quality and performance improvements.
  • Training & installation support
    • Support the development of sales tools, collateral and business processes to assist channel partners (distributors, agents, manufacturing partners). 
    • Support the development of training collateral including videos and manuals for product installation.
    • Travel to customer sites around the world to provide technical expertise as required.
    • Conduct both installation and technical sales training.
  • Troubleshooting support
  • Provide damage control, crisis management, and in-person support for critical customer issues.
  • Provide technical assistance and implementation solutions where product failure arises.
  • General duties
    • Interpret studies, standard and custom product performance specifications, capability/cost models, and performance enhancement initiatives.
    • Analyze performance metrics relating to defined critical business goals.

Skills and Requirements

  • 5+ years’ experience as a Sales Engineer.
  • Degree in Engineering or equivalent.
  • Technical aptitude, including the ability to train in both classroom and hands-on environments.
  • Proven experience speaking comfortably and confidently in front of small and large groups.
  • Proven track record of providing exceptional customer service.
  • Ability to travel internationally.

Preferences

  • In-depth knowledge specific to solar lighting products including solar power generation, battery technologies, principles of electricity and LED lighting.
  • Understanding of lighting design.
  • Construction experience and/or experience in the construction products sector.
  • Spanish and/or French language skills would be an asset.
