Job Summary: 

The Information Technology Branch (ITB) plays a critical role in helping the British Columbia Pension Corporation meet its goal of being one of the best pension administrators in Canada. Using some of the latest technologies, ITB provides systems and technology support through its three (3) supporting Units. Business and systems requirements are planned and delivered in the Software Application Services Unit. The Infrastructure and Operational Services Unit delivers and supports these business systems in the Linux, Mainframe and Microsoft Windows Desktop/Server environments and manages infrastructure change. The IT Services, Planning and Architecture Unit works with Pension Corporation clients and the ITB Units delivering security standards, information management and architectures as well as assess, plan and implement the IT continuous service improvement program.

The Senior Developer contributes to the technical design, development, enhancement and maintenance of the Pension Corporation’s information systems and services.  This position is responsible for the delivery of Java software during the development, testing and implementation phases of projects throughout the systems life cycle.

Job Qualifications:

Your qualifications will include:

  • Completion of an University degree in information technology, computing science, or similar field and 4 years related experience; OR
  • completion of a diploma in information technology, computer science, or similar field and 5 years of related experience; OR
  • a certificate, or program completion, or some course work, and 6 years of related experience; OR
  • an equivalent combination of education, training, and 7 years of related experience.

The successful candidate will have experience, as follows:

  • The candidate should have at least 4 years recent practical experience that includes:
    • providing solutions for complex systems using Java & J2EE technologies; and
    • software development experience.
  • As well, the candidate will have a familiarity and demonstrated experience with:
    • Oracle 10g/11g database
    • J2EE compliant application servers (OC4J, WebLogic, WebSphere, JBoss etc.)
    • Windows and Linux/Unix operating environments
    • developing automated test cases with the JUnit or similar framework
    • Eclipse IDE
    • working under migration control
