Job Summary: 

We have a great opportunity for a Senior Hardware – Embedded Firmware Designer to join our growing company.

Reporting to the Engineering Director, you will build robust, reliable monitoring systems and telemetry on which FTS has built its reputation. You will bring your in-depth experience building sensors, designing electronics, devising algorithms and implementing high-quality firmware. As a senior member of the design team, you will help guide and mentor the rest of the engineering team, and will take ownership of the project management for individual products.

Here is a summary of your key responsibilities:

  • Design, implement and verify analog and digital electronics for data loggers, sensors and telemetry products
  • Design, implement and verify firmware for embedded systems
  • Design, prototype, debug, and validate product designs according to Product Development Lifecycle methodology
  • Coordinate schematic capture and PCB layout for creating proof of concept and final designs
  • Provide technical leadership to other engineers
  • Specify test systems and collaborate with test engineers
  • Clearly communicate technical issues and resource constraints to senior management
  • Interface with contract manufacturing partners and other outside vendors

You bring a solid background to this position including:

  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related discipline
  • Strong ethic of owning the result, and leading the team to achieve goals
  • Multiple years of experience in the design and implementation electronics and firmware for embedded systems
  • Strong experience in C/C++ firmware development in a real time environment with and without the use of an RTOS
  • Experience with 8, 16 and 32 bit microprocessors such as PIC, MSP and ARM
  • Experience using a modern IDE and debug tool chain such as IAR
  • Ability to work well in a group and coordinate development efforts with rest of team

While not essential, it would be ideal if you also brought:

  • Experience in the manufacturing sector
  • Experience with environmental monitoring and sensing
  • Experience with TCP/IP, 2G/3G/M2M wireless and IoT protocols
  • Formal training in DFM, DFT, Agile, etc.
