Job Summary: 

The Municipality of North Cowichan invites applications from candidates with the proven skills, qualifications and abilities for the position of Client Support Specialist. 

The successful candidate will work under the direction of the Information Services Manager and will provide assistance to all Municipal Departments in regards to routine maintenance and administration of information technology equipment.  You are an individual who can effectively trouble shoot, respond to the varying demands of the organization and provide a high level of customer service.  Hours of work for this position may include night and weekend shifts and will include regular travel within the Cowichan Valley. Deployment to other related duties may be required from time to time. This is a unionized position (CUPE Local 358) and the collective agreement may be viewed on our website.

Required Qualifications

  1. Completion of Grade 12.
  2. Completion of a certified program in computer sciences or a related discipline including courses relating to network and communications technology, and a minimum of three years’ relevant experience.
  3. Possession and maintenance of a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver's License; a satisfactory current driver's abstract will be required.

Required Skills

  1. Experience in identifying and resolving hardware and software problems in a Microsoft Windows environment.
  2. Proficiency in computer support and networking in various environments, including installing networked microcomputer equipment and related technology.
  3. Experience in writing clear, concise user documentation and effectively communicating with users of computer technology.

Required Abilities

  1. Independence of judgment and capability of working under minimal supervision.
  2. Manage time effectively when faced with multiple requests for support.
  3. The position may be physically demanding; candidate must be able to successfully perform all duties associated with the position.  A medical certificate attesting to suitability for this position may be required.
