DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

HPAS Business Services provides business analysis, testing and business intelligence services based on industry standards and best practices for our clients. 

DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Director, Business Services and Team Lead, Business Analysis the Senior Business Analyst performs strategic business analysis in support of various initiatives (e.g. incident management, maintenance, enhancements, process improvements, new applications, projects), applies analysis skills to identify opportunities for process improvement and is the bridge between the business and the extended application services team. The Senior Business Analyst is also responsible for assisting the Business Analysis Team Lead with resolving priority incidents, general team operations and providing direction and mentoring to business analyst team members. The Senior Business Analyst is resourceful and adept at running multiple tasks in parallel while still managing deliverables to completion within the assigned timeframes. 

ACCOUNTABILITIES/DELIVERABLES

1. Performs business analysis:

  • Ability to work across multiple business domains;
  • Support service delivery activities such as impact assessments, application maintenance, application enhancements, incident management, projects and process improvements;
  • Understand and support client business processes and applications;
  • Work with clients to identify, analyze, document and validate requirements;
  • Work with clients to ensure that defined business requirements meet business needs;
  • Works with development team to ensure solution design/technical specifications align to documented business requirements and that solution will be fit for use upon delivery.
  • Create clear, concise, unambiguous and traceable business requirements;
  • Help with proactively identifying and managing changes to requirements;
  • Visualize the “bigger picture” and suggest ways that client applications can be improved;
  • Apply business analysis techniques such as facilitation, JAD sessions, workshops, interviews, business cases, process workflows, feasibility studies and data modeling; and 
  • Analyze and recommend business process improvements that meet the needs of the business and align with strategic direction.

2. Applies and understands the systems development lifecycle:

  • Ensure business analysis activities and deliverables align to SDLC;
  • Support clients from analysis through to post-implementation validation;
  • Work with extended Application Services team members (e.g. Development, Operations, Release Management) to support delivery activities; and
  • Work with team members to recommends strategies for successful implementation of IM/IT solutions.

3. Performs other related duties:

  • Provide expertise to business areas and other team members across HPAS on business analysis processes and methodologies;
  • Support the Business Analysis Team Lead with resolving priority incidents and general team operations as needed;
  • Support extended Application Services team members with compliance to HPAS standards, policies and processes;
  • Manage work assignments and support delivery for assigned business area(s);
  • Participate in release planning;
  • Provide direction and mentorship to team members;
  • Ensure issues are identified, tracked, reported on and resolved in a timely manner;
  • Assist and support team members in meeting committed deadlines and schedules;
  • Provide business analysis services on assigned projects; and
  • Support team processes and identify opportunities for continuous improvement. 

3. Performs other related duties:

  • Provide expertise to business areas and other team members across HPAS on business analysis processes and methodologies;
  • Support the Business Analysis Team Lead with resolving priority incidents and general team operations as needed;

SELECTION CRITERIA

Education and Experience

  • Degree or Diploma in a related field (e.g. computer science, information systems);
  • Minimum 8 years relevant business analyst experience;
  • Minimum 4 years experience working in an IM/IT environment;
  • Demonstrated experience performing business analysis (e.g. gathering business requirements, critical thinking, problem solving, data modeling, process modeling, developing business cases);
  • Understanding and experience with 1 or more software methodologies;
  • Demonstrated experience managing deliverables to schedule and scope; and
  • Previous experience or exposure to BABOK and/or other process improvement methodologies would be an asset.
